Our Values

Collaboration

The SHINE network enables teachers from all over Scotland to connect with health researchers as well as other SHINE schools and Local Authority contacts to share best practice around the use of health and wellbeing data in the school setting. The annual SHINE conference raises awareness of potential cross sector collaborations, enabling researchers and schools to work side by side to develop, evaluate or trial interventions on common agenda items such as sleep, mental health or gender-based violence prevention.

Knowledge exchange

SHINE supports a whole-school approach to health improvement planning, by providing resources and tools which involve the whole learning community, comprising young people, teachers, parents/carers and community partners in positive health promotion. Expert health webinars, research briefings and publications are made available to member schools to support knowledge exchange. The SHINE teachers’ panel provides feedback to the SHINE team to shape new developments.

High-quality research

Member schools can access high-quality health research expertise and resources through the SHINE network. Teachers can develop their research knowledge and practice by engaging in events and opportunities to learn more about research methods, data interpretation and implementation to support career-long professional learning in the school setting.
